Trailer Wheel Hubs & Brake Drums — Semi and Light Trailer Wheel Ends
A trailer wheel hub does two jobs at once: it carries the wheel on its bearings, and on a drum-braked axle it doubles as the mounting face for the brake drum. We machine and assemble hubs for both ends of the market from our Liangshan plant — 10-stud and ISO hubs for semi-trailer axles, and 4, 5 and 6-lug idler hubs for car trailers, boat trailers and light utility trailers — so a trailer hub replacement order arrives sized to the spindle and bolt pattern you already run, not a generic bore that needs machining on-site.

Semi-Trailer Wheel Hubs and Hub-and-Drum Assemblies
On a 10-stud or ISO semi-trailer axle, the wheel hub carries the load through its bearings onto the spindle, and where the axle runs a drum brake, the drum bolts or presses directly onto the same hub casting. We supply this as a matched trailer hub and drum assembly rather than a bare hub, because a drum bored slightly off-center to a mismatched hub is the fastest way to glaze a fresh set of brake linings. Buyers sourcing a trailer brake hub assembly for a rebuild get the hub, bearing races, and drum machined together as one unit, so the whole wheel end goes back together true.
Hub castings are matched to the axle brand's stud spacing and spindle taper — BPW, SAF, Fuwa and York equivalents each use a slightly different bearing bore and stud circle, even where the overall hub looks interchangeable. We ask for axle brand and rated tonnage before quoting a set of trailer hub assemblies, the same way we do for the brake drums, chambers and camshafts under our trailer brake system range, since a hub is really the fifth part of that same braking chain rather than a standalone item.
Grease caps on this end of the line are sold as semi trailer hub caps — a stamped or press-fit cover that keeps road grime off the outer bearing and gives a quick visual check of grease condition without pulling the hub. We stock both plain steel and chrome-plated caps to match fleet spec.
Light and Utility Trailer Hubs — 4, 5 and 6-Lug
Car trailers, boat trailers and light utility trailers run a much smaller idler hub — no brake in most cases, just bearings and a stud pattern sized to the trailer's own wheel, not the tow vehicle's. Bolt count and spacing vary by trailer class: 4-lug hubs cover the lightest single-axle utility trailers, five lug trailer hub patterns (often specified as trailer hubs 5 lug or a 5 on 5 trailer hub bolt circle) are the most common size across mid-weight car and equipment trailers, and 6 stud trailer hubs step up for tandem-axle boat and cargo trailers closer to their rated capacity.
Most of this market in North America runs on Dexter-pattern axles, and we build our light-trailer hubs as a compatible replacement for Dexter-style hubs — same bearing bore, same stud spacing and offset — rather than requiring the whole axle to be swapped when a dexter trailer hub wears out or a bearing fails. A 5 lug trailer hub replacement or car trailer wheel hubs order from us drops onto the existing spindle without re-machining.
Where the light trailer runs electric drum brakes, the hub, drum, magnet and shoe assembly share the same bolt pattern and bearing bore as the plain idler version — tell us if the axle is braked or unbraked and we quote the correct casting.
Hub Bearings and Spindle Fit
Every hub we ship carries a matched pair of tapered roller bearings — inner and outer — sized to the spindle diameter, not a generic bearing dropped into an oversized bore. Trailer hub bearings are usually ordered as part of a wheel-end rebuild after a bearing failure, and there is a reason we ship hubs and bearings together: mixing a new hub with an old, worn bearing race is one of the more common causes of a repeat failure within a few thousand kilometers.
Getting the trailer spindle and hub pairing right matters more than the bearing brand: spindle diameter, shoulder height and thread pitch have to match the hub's bearing bore exactly, or the bearing preload will be wrong from day one no matter how well it's torqued. If you're not certain of your spindle diameter, a photo of the spindle end with a tape measure against it is usually enough for us to confirm fitment before shipping.
Every hub leaves the plant with bearings pre-packed in grease and seated to the correct depth, ready to fit with a new double-lip seal — we don't ship bearings loose in a bag expecting the buyer to press them in cold.
Hub Kits, Replacement Assemblies and Ordering Together
A trailer hub kit bundles the hub, bearings, seal, and hub cap as one part number, which is how most fleets and distributors actually order — a trailer wheel hub assembly kit for a scheduled rebuild, rather than four separate line items pulled from four different bins. We stock trailer hub kits for both the semi-trailer and light-trailer side of this page, and can add the drum to the kit for braked axles.
When a fleet is sourcing replacement trailer hubs after damage rather than routine wear, trailer hub replacement usually goes hand in hand with a wheel or rim check, since a hub failure that's run hot enough to need a full hub swap will often have also stressed the wheel it was carrying. For that reason, a lot of our orders combine trailer hubs and bearings with a look at our trailer wheel rims range in the same shipment, and we're happy to quote trailer wheels and hubs together as one line for a full wheel-end rebuild.
For fleets stocking ahead rather than reacting to a failure, bearings, trailer hubs and drums are also available as part of our broader trailer spare parts kits, so a workshop can carry one rebuild kit per axle position instead of guessing which individual parts will run out first.
Hub Caps and Fitment Notes
Hub caps are a small part with an outsized effect on bearing life — a cracked or missing cap lets water and grit into the outer bearing long before the hub itself shows any sign of wear. We supply trailer wheel hub caps sized to both the semi-trailer and light-trailer hub families on this page, in plain stamped steel or chrome-plated finish for fleets that spec a polished look on car and equipment trailers.
As with every part on this page, fitment comes down to three details we ask for on every quote: axle or spindle brand, stud count and bolt circle, and whether the position is braked or unbraked. Sending a photo of the existing hub or the axle tag is the fastest way to confirm all three at once — see our trailer axles range for the axle side of this pairing, and our trailer axle guide for a walk-through of how axle brand, spindle size and hub fitment connect.
